You’ve probably got all you need already to take you into Autumn, but by adding a few key pieces and some clever styling you can easily wear your Summer wardrobe way into the next season.
Here are my 6 simple tips that everyone can manage:-
1.Keep wearing your Maxi
Wear it with long sleeves, a t-shirt or blouse underneath. A shapely blazer, denim jacket or chunky knit on top or a knotted white or chambray shirt. Make sure you keep that waist definition to avoid looking boxy.
Not forgetting that you can wear your summer maxi over jeans too!
2. Add tights
The easiest and most inexpensive way to add texture and warmth to your summer skirts and dresses is with a pair of tights. There are so many to choose from and it’s worth making sure you get a good fit to avoid constant adjustment!
Look for opaque, cable knit and other textured patterns and wear with your summer skirt and boots for a perfect Autumn look.
3. Layer up
Adding extra layers is perfect for those cooler late Summer early Autumn days. Keep the balance right by adding a long top layer over lean fitted bottoms, then add a jacket, scarf and boots to complete the look.
4. Invest in a jacket
A jacket/blazer as I’ve said before is one of the best investment pieces to have in your wardrobe! Adding a jacket to your summer florals will instantly make them look more structured and autumnal.
-Try a Military-style jacket over a pretty top with jeans and ankle boots.
-Try a Leather jacket over a summer dress and boots
-Try a Blazer over a summer top and skirt or a jumpsuit.
5. Add a deeper colour
Add instant Autumn richness to your summer pastels buy adding some deeper colours. Teal, Plum or Rust are just a few of the colours we all have already in our winter wardrobe which we can use to prolong our summer outfits. If you cant put your hand on anything then just add a jewel toned statement necklace to pull your summer outfit into Autumn.
6. Buy boots!
Boots are just an Autumn staple, more functional and warm than our summer sandals so when you’re ready to take those first steps from Summer to Autumn start with your feet!
You see, the turning of a new season doesn’t have to mean a new wardrobe, by adding darker colours, richer textures and a little warmth, your summer clothes will last another season. Save your pennies for a spend on Winter staples!
