Being tall means your still have the attributes of one of the 5 body shapes, hourglass, pear, strawberry, rectangle or apple but you have longer proportions. You are the envy of many women but still have your own challenges.
You may find it difficult buying clothes as sleeve length and hem lengths are too short and waist lines are not in the right place for you. You may also feel a little self-conscious of your height which could cause poor posture if you tend to hold your head down a little and your shoulders can appear stooped.
With the correct colours and styles to suit your body shape and type you will begin to feel more confident and hold you head up high!
The aim when dressing a tall body type depends on whether you prefer to show of your tallness or whether you would like to look shorter. it is also important to establish if you have long leg length and a shorter torso, a long torso and shorter legs or if you are well balanced.
Generally you will want to achieve a well proportional look which fits well and flatters the silhouette. So with that in mind here are some helpful guidelines:-
- You may live in flats but a kitten heel looks great dressed up or down with jeans and will improve your posture.
- Try chunky boots in winter with an inch or so heel to again aid your posture.
- A wide belt visually divides the body and has a shortening effect.
- Mix and match colours to add interest and break up the long line of the body
- Try asymmetric designs and hems lines.
- Rounded toe shoes and boots will shorten the leg as will ankle straps.
- High waisted trousers if you wish to lengthen your leg length and wide leg denims look amazing.
- Skinny jeans should stop at the top of the ankle and bootleg at the heel, measure your inside leg to check this before ordering online.
- Choose round neck and scoop neck tops over ‘v’ neck.
- Blazers with waist definition will add shape to your silhouette but you will also look fabulous is long line blazers.
- Opt for A-line skirts just above, on or below the knee. not too long or short.
- Capri style trousers will look great on you but they will decrease you leg length so wear them with a shapely top.
- Wear bold necklaces and chunky scarves to bring the eye upwards.
- Avoid long straight skirts, long double breasted coats, pinstripes, boxy shift dresses.
- Choose large handbags to balance proportions.
Some high street store have excellent tall sections which are worth a look Gap, Topshop, M&S and of course specialist stores like Long, Tall Sally.
