Do you avoid swimming because you hate the way you look in bathing suits? and dread the chore of finding a cossie to take on holiday that doesn’t make you feel completely exposed?, then read on for my suggestions for the best swimsuits for your body shape.
Firstly it’s important to bear in mind that nobody has a perfect body and even those that do, I guarantee, don’t think so!
Most important is to find a swimsuit that makes you feel comfortable enough to ditch swimming in your denim shorts and huge oversized t-shirt!
Pears
When you carry your weight around your hips and thighs it’s best to look for swimsuits that disguise and support this area, then add balance by drawing attention to your top half. A high waist will give tummy control and boy shorts will disguise heavy thighs. Choose a dark bottom colour and a brighter top. Tankinis and Monokinis are great for you as well as skirted swimsuits.
Apples
When your tummy is the area that you want to hide, swimsuits with support, ruching and vertical detail are best. A busty apple will also need good cup support as well as tum. Patterns are great as long as they are not too large or bold and any vertical detail centrally will draw the eye in and have a slimming effect. Wrap style cossie’s create a waist, and also look out for ruffles in the top to skim over a tum and make you feel more comfortable. There’s nothing to say an apple can’t wear a bikini so try a high waisted retro style for an on trend look.
Rectangles
As a rectangle you have balanced shoulder and hips with little waist definition, so the trick here is to firstly decide if you wish to embrace your naturally straight lines or add curves. Waist detail like a belt or cut out sides and ties on hips as well as patterns will add definition to the bottom half, a deep plunge or halterneck top will add shape to the top half. Obviously we can be slender or full in all of our body shapes but rectangles tend to be on the slender side so have the pick of the swimwear world!
Strawberries/ Inverted triangles
Your shoulders are broader than your hips, you may well have a full bust and little waist definition. You can go to town on colour, stripes and frills on your slim hips and keep the top half darker to balance your silhouette. Halternecks are great for you as they draw the eye inwards. Don’t forget to support those boobs!
Hourglass
With what is thought of as the perfect womanly figure you have the pick of the bunch, however it is easy to loose your curves and create the illusion of one of the other body shapes. Keep your curves balanced with one colour swimsuits or consistent pattern top and bottom. Good support is always a must for plus size hourglasses. Draw attention equally to you shoulders and hips not forgetting to define that wonderful waist!
Still want to cover up?
Yeah me too! but lets make it stylish ladies. Wraps, Kimonos, Kaftans and Sarongs suit any body shape as they are so sheer and light. The choice is endless so there is absolutely no excuse to lack confidence in your swimwear. Here’s a few of my favorites:-
